Well done to Paul Wilson who scored 3 tries for the 3rds this week.
Jordan Kay may have been a little concussed yesterday after catching a knee in the side of the head during the 2nds match, we came to this conclusion as with about 5 minutes left of the game we were awarded a penalty in the Musselburgh 22 and with us losing by 40 points he sluggishly enquired "why are we not kicking for the points rather than going for a try" !!

Sean ( Shunty ) Hunter marked his 2nd XV comback game after a 3 year absense due to a knee injury by scoring the winning try right on the final whistle in a tight match against Cartha QP. Sean was quoted as saying that scoring this important try will not change him in any way, as he signed programmes in the players lounge after the game.

| Full Scrummaging for 1st and 2nd XV for season 2009/2010 | | 02-Aug-2009 06:40
 |
|
The Scottish Rugby Board has approved changes to the scrum laws for the club game in Scotland this forthcoming season.
For the last six years Scottish Rugby has been permitted to conduct experimental law variations by the game’s worldwide governing body, the IRB, on the use of under-19 scrum laws at all levels of the adult club game. Scottish Rugby implemented this, except for first XVs in Scottish Hydro Premier 1, Premier 2 and Premier 3 divisions. Read on for the changes for this season. The IRB has now written the variation into law giving member Unions the opportunity to implement under-19 scrum law variations at levels considered appropriate within each Union’s domestic tier.
Since the first experiment, the IRB has changed the full scrum law specifically with regard to the process by which packs engage. This summer Scottish Rugby, via the Scottish Rugby Council, decided to consult clubs on their views on which laws should be applied to the scrum in the adult game and this led to the recommendation made to the Board.
So, for season 2009/10, the Board has approved that full scrum laws will be used at the following levels: • All Scottish Hydro Premier and National first XV matches • All matches in the National Reserve leagues 1 and 2 • All women’s Premier League first XV matches
Under-19 scrum variations will continue at the following levels: • All Scottish Hydro Regional League first XV matches • All regional league reserve team matches • All women’s national league and national development league matches • All other rugby
There will be a review of the levels at which the under-19 variations are applied in Scotland at the end of the 2009-2010 season.
Meanwhile, another variation employed in Scotland over the last six years, rolling substitutions – not exceeding 12 in any one game – has now also been written into the laws of the game, whereby Unions can have rolling subs at defined levels of their domestic game.
The Scottish Rugby Board has approved rolling substitutions continuing at all levels of the club game.

Winner- Mark Cadle( Says we need to find him a bigger pitch and putt course for next year.)
Runner Up- Craig Panther
Nearest the Pin- Andy Knight
Longest Drive- Stu Panther
This year the weather looked like it was going to make the day a wash out, I received an email from Nicky Drew asking if it was raining would we call it off and Davie Nicol calling me on the morning of the event saying it was to wet and he would not be participating this year (not able to print my reply on this site)He was asked politely to reconsider which he duly agreed to.
The turn out was encouraging again this year and we had 21 competitors and around 6 caddie's. As we were arriving at the golf course(yes Cable a par of 70 means it is regarded as such)a competition which had started an hour earlier had all the participants running for the shelter of the bar and wondering why we were still getting ready to play.
I was in the first group away and had the honour, I would love to say that I split the fairway with a 300 yard drive but I managed to drag a 210 yrd drive left. The weather cleared up as planned and a great day out ensued, Davie Nicol at one stage looked like he had a different top for every hole, Cable guy was wearing his wife's golfing gear(Pink & White with accessories) and rumour has it that by the 18th green his balls were pink also. Andy Knight from the cheers I heard almost got a hole in one at the nearest the pin hole 7th and Scotty Edmondson who was playing behind us was close on a few occasions to hitting us with his 300 yard plus drives but when it came to the longest drive he was outgunned by Wee STD.
I think all players enjoyed a day in which Gavin Downie hit his best score ever 81 and Craig Panther must have been close to his as I gave him an equivalent 26 handicap and he carded a scratch 11 over par.
I think for most of us a bit of practise is needed for next year and for a few an adjustment of handicaps!!!

 |
| 24th May 2008 |
Gentlemen!!
Just a quick email to let you all know that tomorrow (24th May) is captains day. We are meeting at the club for about half past 12, try and be there sharpish so we can get the festivities under way ASAP.
As we have had to lay out a lot of money this season for Jugs (guys who leave after a game and don't pay) and paying for physio treatment we are rather short in the money situation this season. Anyone who is coming along will be asked for 5 to put towards the bevvy and also some shrimp for the BBQ!
Id like to wish you all a happy Friday..... Hopefully the thought of getting Minging tomorrow wont put you off today's work.
Your friendly Neighbourhood
Horse!!
